General Port Forwarding Guide | Access Document Manager

Port Forwarding is composed of at least 2 main blocks!

Block 1: Router / Gateway device
Block 2: Device firewall (Server firewall, PC firewall, ETC)

To be able to succesfuly open a port from WAN to LAN IP you need to setup up all devices (open ports or forward ports) in the path of data trafic from Internet to that specific device.

In our case we see 2 main scenarios in using Access Server

Scenario 1 - Direct access
Access Server software is installed on a server OS that is in a Datacenter/Business Network and there is no Gateway/Router between Internet users and that respective server.
The datapath looks like this:  Internet client > Firewall of server OS > Access Server software.
In this case all we have to do is to open required port (Access server will display this port as LOCAL PORT) in OS firewall to allow data trafic from the internet user to Access server.
Done!

Scenario 2 - Behind Gateway/Router
Access Server software is installed on a server OS that is in a Business/Home Network and there is a Gateway/Router between Internet users and that respective server.
The datapath looks like this:  Internet client >Router/Gateway> Firewall of Access server OS > Access Server software.

Step 1
In this case all we have to Setup Gateway/Router (Port Forwarding) and redirect WAN port to local device (LAN IP) where Access Server software is installed.
This step is particular to each Gateway/Router, please visit your Gateway/Router manual on "How to do Port Forwarding"

Step 2
Open required port (Access Server software will display this port as LOCAL PORT) in OS firewall to allow data trafic from the internet user to Access Server software.
Done!
